Southington Township Zoning Commission

The Zoning Commission, comprised of Brian Boose (Chair), Ed Vystrcil (Vice Chair), Ron Davis, Randy Kirnec, and Pep Baugher is spearheading the development of a new Southington Township Comprehensive Plan – Vision 2060. The genesis of this Plan came from Rich Kasunic, former Chair of the Zoning Commission, who we tragically lost earlier this year.  Rich is, and will continue to be, very much missed by all Commission members among a multitude of others. The Commission is maturing Rich’s vision for a local Comprehensive Plan, working closely with the Trustees, the Citizens’ Advisory Committee (led by Dawn Rhodes and LaRue Harshman), and the Countryside Program from Cleveland State University. This Comprehensive Plan will provide a clear vision for the future growth of Southington Township, outlining and codifying our Community’s collective desires for what we want Southington to look like up to 50 years in the future.

We are currently looking for community volunteers to assist in the development of this Plan, anticipated to be prepared in 2010-2011.  If you are interested in participating, please contact any of the above individuals for more information, or review additional data at www.southingtontownship.com.

Development of this Comprehensive Plan, coupled with our input into the broader Western Trumbull Area Plan, dovetails with the three-fold mission of the Commission:

1. To apply planning, vision, and proper controls to ensure the orderly, intelligent, and managed growth of Southington Township, in consonance with the values, needs, expectations, and desires of our residents.

2. To set forth a clear vision that articulates our Community’s values, ensuring a defined, cooperatively defined future development path, as enforced through our Zoning Resolutions and codified in our pending Comprehensive Plan – Southington Township, Vision 2060.

3. To ensure our residents maintain and improve the quality of life they currently enjoy through proper zoning controls and the development of a Comprehensive Plan for Southington Township.

The Comprehensive Plan will be significantly more detailed than the Area-wide Plan, focused exclusively on our Township at the micro-level. By completing both the Comprehensive Plan and Area-wide Plan at the same time, we will be able to provide more specific, local input into the larger area-wide plan, thereby driving that larger effort from the local grass roots level.
