Southington Water District

The journey to provide water and sewer solutions for Southington Township residents has been full of roadblocks and set-backs to be sure. Satisfying the required governmental red tape has been part of the journey as well as objections and court filings by those who, even though they can't solve our need for water and sewer improvements, have managed to delay our progress to suit their own personal agendas. Throughout this process one glaring fact remains: The residents of Southington Township still don't have appropriate water and sewer solutions and they still deserve a better quality of life that those solutions will bring.
The most viable solution to this situation was for the Southington Township Trustees to file under Ohio Revised Code 6119 to form our own Water and Sewer District. After much time and work we were successful in obtaining a preliminary ruling from Judge Logan in November 2008. Under the guidance of ORC 6119 we completed all necessary steps and received final approval from Judge Logan in June 2009. The newly appointed Southington Water District Board is now in legal control of providing water and sewer solutions for Southington Township. The Water and Sewer Board currently meets on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at the Town Hall beginning at 6:00 P.M. Their meetings are open to the public.
The District Board consists of three members; Bill Horton, Chairman, Rob Gilanyi, Vice-Chairman and Stanley "Skip" Hanes, Secretary-Treasurer. This Board has been working tirelessly to find appropriate, economical solutions to the water and sewer issues for Southington Township.
In late 2008, the Township Trustees began the application to obtain a USDA grant to help get the water line started from the Warren City limits to the Southington Township line. During the Winter months of 2009 the Trustees and the District Board conducted income surveys to help secure that grant. We were successful in qualifying for a partial USDA grant and the Water District Board is now in the final stages of that application process. The Trustees also filed an application through U.S. Congressman Tim Ryan's office for Federal budget monies for water and sewer. That process is on-going.
The Trustees and the District Board have pledged to work together to continue to find grants and loans that will help offset the cost to our residents.
